Andy F. Bessette P’10

Andy Bessette, a Trustee of the College from 2007 to 2012, is executive vice president and chief administrative officer of the Travelers Companies, Inc. As such, he is responsible for corporate real estate, administrative services, community affairs, aviation, internal investigations, event management, business continuity, and sports sponsorships, including the marketing partnership with the PGA Tour and title sponsorship of the Travelers Championship. Andy is active in several professional organizations. He served as the 2000-2001 president of the International Development Research Corporation (IDRC), now CoreNet Global. He earned an IDRC professional certificate as Advanced Professional in Real Estate and the Workplace.

Andy was a member of the 1980 U.S. Olympic Track and Field team in the hammer throw, setting an Olympic Trials record of almost 233 feet, a record at that time. Although he never competed in the Moscow Games because of the U.S. boycott, that athletic experience has enabled him to better relate to the professional golfers he works to recruit to come play at the TPC River Highlands Golf Course. “Having been a world-class athlete, I can relate to these guys. I know what it takes to get there and maintain it.”

Andy continues to support Olympic Committee activities. He is also involved in a number of community organizations, including the board for the University of Connecticut Foundation, the University of Connecticut Health Center, and the Connecticut Science Center. As a Trinity Trustee, he served on the Awards for Excellence Committee from 2011 to 2012.

Andy has a B.A. degree from The University of Connecticut and a M.A. degree from the University of Rhode Island.
